the news is that this happen by accident :) i expect that if my phone is ever lost or stolen, and the IT guy find someone bruteforcing some email password, that they will call and check if it's me or not before wiping my personal phone. The warning always say "if phone is lost". it never mention "if you forget your password" or anything. that's a huge difference for the average joe to understand... hell, even the guy that writes xkcd got locked out of his android phone one day playing with the lock pattern!
