When I was at university every week my roommates and I would invent a new student organisation and spend a few hours pitching it to passersby on campus. The organizations were ridiculous, things like "Students for the exploration of space" or "The Student Potato Advocate". Sometimes we would solicit money but always we would have a mailing list where you could sign up for more information. We just did it for silly fun but in retrospect it was a great experience. Learning how to promote something, having the self-confidence to talk to strangers and sell something is really useful.
