The Docker CLI will be around for a long time. This post is just FUD.
There isn't another runtime that is as easy to use as Docker.
- macintux 8y agoThe post was primarily about the company. The CLI can be around for decades, but that doesn't necessarily mean Docker the company can profit from it.
- cpitman 8y agoPart of the article calls out how the alternatives (like CRI-O) are shipping docker compatible CLIs, so that users can keep going `docker build` but with a completely different runtime.
- raesene9 8y agoCRI-O isn't comparable to Docker for developers, it's a replacement for Docker when used as part of a Kubernetes cluster. The thing is that whilst various operations are shipping bits of the functionality that Docker provides in various different tools, for developers working with containers none of them (that I've seen) have an easy to use, cross-platform setup.
