Don't know about you personally, but normal human babies certainly aren't at all like animals. The sheer, mind-boggling rational and learning capacity needed to learn highly symbolic and abstract things like language and arithmetic means that babies are 'smarter' than adults. (If by 'smarter' we mean the capacity for learning, mental models and abstract generalization.)
