Being from the rural part of an emerging country, I have heard countless stories about how "when I was your age, all we could afford to eat was this and that". Here, varied meals have become a way to express your (good) taste, how open-minded you are, and how much foreign food you can afford. I could hardly settle for any of the diets described above.
