  On Linux (which it's not clear can be part of the scanning solution, which seems to rely on Fujitsu's PDFing software) - one can set up : cron : rsync : encfs --reverse . The last step sets up a filesystem that is identical to the existing real data, except encrypted - meaning that the whole back up is done securely (even if the backup devices are insecure). Maybe this is something that everyone is already doing, but it's a kind of 'obvious when you know how' thing if you're not.
