How do you feel about the Amtrak engineer being charged in the Philadelphia derailment? Does Amtrak deserve most liability for putting the engineer in charge of the train, or does the engineer deserve the blame for failing the most basic duties of their job?

- 8bitsrule 8y agoI'm not familiar with the details there. IIRC, the engineer was going around a curve much faster than it was rated for. Whatever. Failing to detect that an employee is not fit to do a job which potentially jeopardizes many lives is a very serious failure. I might -want- to ask which executive the company will expect to do the time. Airlines and railroads seem to prefer to blame their operators, particularly when the operators are killed and unable to defend themselves. In this case, however, the vehicle had no operator to blame.
- youeseh 8y agoThe article mentions the negligent operator watching a TV show.
