I really want them to come out with a pickup. Electric vehicles are massive torque monsters, make a vehicle that outclasses every POS in an F150 rolling coal and you will see them sell.
You can do this now in a Tesla but it doesn’t look like you can do it in a Tesla. And looks matter.
- yingw787 8y agoIt will be cool to see how they evolve the design language as the product lineup widens. I wonder if they will still go for "sleek", or if "boxy" will be in.
- x2f10 8y agoHow many people purchase trucks for the simple fact that it's "rolling coal"? I wonder if Tesla trucks would have a not-man-enough stigma (e.g. the stigma Prius' have).
- ratling 8y agoHaving grown up with it, truck culture is just... cancer. I love the idea of subverting it by making a straight up better product in every way except price (and you can market around the price issue, "What you're too poor to afford a real truck? phh").
- thecynicc 8y agoRemember this is US you are talking about. You guys have really weird idea of HAS TO TOW WITH A PICKUP, even though a lot of typical EU sedans have better ratings for it. If you ever had to haul any kind of a trailer you know your fuel economy gets destroyed. Once, in my gas car I nearly ran out of fuel, because in a hilly terrain typically 100km reserve came on and the estimated range was instantly below 20 km And even if you are not towing a trailer, pretty much anything you put in the bed will wreck your (usually very low for EVs) air resistance coefficients and also murder your range. While the EV pickup could sell to city-dwelling hipsters, in US culture real-use it will fail badly. It's even more dumb than the Tesla Semi lul
- leesec 8y agoThey are working on it! Elon says it's the product he's most excited about, but it's going to be Model Y -> Semi -> Pickup as priority.
