since when do we as a country track people over violence instead of say just oh doing an investigation of just asking wha5t happened? are we suddenly Communist China or Nazi Germany?
- krapp 8y ago>are we suddenly Communist China or Nazi Germany? Suddenly? No. This is the inevitable result of the normalization of authoritarianism, militarism and mass surveillance that began after 9/11. I mean, we have a President who outright calls the press enemies of the people, and half the country agrees with him, and most of the rest just dismiss it as Trump being an angry crazy man. That's how far the Overton window has been pushed towards protofascism in the US.
- thecynicc 8y agoWhoa, let's not kid ourselves. The US has been a police state for ages. Trump isn't far worse than Obama or Bush. The entire cold war era where authoritarianism was rampant? Watergate? Reagan bombing random countries to save face? Your intelligence apparatus running out of control. MKUltra? Gulf of Tonkin? Entire shitshow of crackdowns during Vietnam? Remember COINTELPRO and Hoover? His name is still plastered all over FBI headquarters Secret service used to beat the shit out of people who photographed Roosevelt The "glorious captains of industry" using US state and federal power to crack down on worker's rights protesters in 19th century? One could both go back into history of US and increase "resolution", filling year after year with a monumental fuckup that cracked down on civil rights. PS. I personally find Trump exactly as bad as Reagan was. Now watch him be ranked same as Abraham Lincoln in a decade
- azeotropic 8y agoHow do you do investigations if you aren't allowed to question suspects and witnesses and keep records of them? I'm really perplexed by this stance.
