I thought about that before posting but I see no reason why anyone would want to even try. I didn’t want to pay Namecheap’s fee so it’s quite clear I wouldn’t buy it from someone else either. Worst case I have to get a new domain..

You would probably buy it from a squatter for a less outrageous price, such as 20-30 EUR for the next year.
