Why would I want to buy a house at all, much less with other people? Some anecdata and heuristics incoming: I know someone who owns his house and he had a plumbing problem in his basement recently; huge pain and expense. Folks in their 20s are seeing these stories. Cultural criticism and call-out culture makes it clear to us that productive communication and friendships are actually hard to do, and that just because you're "supposed" to buy a house and have 2.1 kids plus dog doesn't mean you really have to to be a "successful person!" I think if people my age see the economic incentives like I am, they are going to move in to apartments, where they can just autopay rent and worry about degrees of magnitude less things that could go wrong, or just move out of the country where they can make more money?
