Extensions. I am now locked into Chrome because several services I use require Chrome extensions that aren't available elsewhere. The idea that Chrome can be unseated, or isn't needed, is unrealistic for the many users who rely on Chrome-exclusive extensions.
- ocdtrekkie 8y agoI would be curious how many of those extensions aren't an extreme compromise of your security. (Most extensions are.) You should be using as few extensions as humanly possible, and looking to remove extensions whenever you can. (I currently use one, the EFF's Privacy Badger, though Firefox's new Tracking Protection makes it somewhat redundant, and I may not keep it forever.)
- sridca 8y agoNot to mention users who enjoy using ChromeOS and do not share the privacy alarmist feeings of HN. Go ahead and downvote this.
- rjf72 8y agoBrave, as but one example, natively supports Chrome extensions. [1] It also has a slew of really awesome features now including single click TOR windows, native anti-fingerprinting / anti-tracking, native ad-blocking, native anti-script support, etc. [1] - https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017909112-How-can-I-add-extensions-to-Brave- https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017909112-How...

- maple3142 8y agoFirefox's webextensions api is a totally different thing from chrome's ones. Some of its api are either missing or work differently.
- toastal 8y agoThis is so sad really. I have to keep Chrome around to run one extension, but Chrome's WebExtensions are now the 'standard' in the main browsers and many companies have been shunning support to the other browsers by not bothering to package outside the Chrome Store.
