Antitrust Thinker to Join Democratic Staff in the House; Silicon Valley Worried
- tracker1 8y agoHow exactly do you "break up" Facebook (FB + Messenger, not the subsidiaries) without breaking Facebook?
- tareqak 8y agoFacebook could allow access different instant-messaging clients to add contacts from Facebook. In this world, Messenger just becomes another instant-messaging client, but I don't see how this would break Facebook. It would totally devalue Messenger though.
- magduf 8y agoYeah, this seems like one fairly simple way of adding some competition without having to completely re-architect Facebook itself. Facebook is already used a lot as an authentication service, after all, by third-parties such as Tinder.
- tracker1 8y agoEven then... most of the value isn't messenger... it's Facebook the social media network and advertising platform... you have no advertising without the network, and there's really no practical way to "break up" the social network without destroying it all.
- zeruch 8y agoMaybe its time to stop 'worrying' and start thinking about why that move happened in the first place?
