My fondest memories of programming are all the days of BASIC. I felt it was super simple, easy to keep in your head, and made no mistakes about flow. I don't honestly know if this was just because I was young and excited, or if the simplicity of BASIC has a lot of merits that are missing in today's popular languages.
- StrictDabbler 8y agoI think it was youth. My fondest memories of programming were Turbo Pascal. I used basic in the eighties but I was still a literal child. You were probably either a Gen-Xer or a little more precocious about programming than me. In about five to ten years we'll have a spate of articles from nostalgic early Millenials about Turbo Pascal, Turbo C, Watcom C and such, then a rash of remembarances about CGI-bin, then early Java.... Personally, I miss mode 13h at least twice a month.
