- dang 8y agoThat's milder, which I appreciate, because degrees matter. Unfortunately, it's still a slur. On HN, please don't post comments that put down the people who come from a region, just like you wouldn't put down a nation or any other large class of humans. Imagine a smart kid (or anyone) reading HN from the place you're putting down. How are they going to feel? Readers here have a right not to see themselves insulted just for what group they belong to, such as where they live.
- scarejunba 8y agoHmm, all right. I think I’m criticizing the general politics of the region, rather than the individuals in the region. One might, for instance, hate the politics of just-pre-Nazi-Germany and say that Germans were anti-Semitic at the time. That would just be accurate. In the case of democracies, this link between state policy and the predominant views of the people resident there is tighter. I would imagine a smart kid could divorce himself from his fellow residents who have stupid policies. Certainly harsher anti-Chinese comments are common on HN without equal censure and many Chinese endure unharmed. However, it is your website and your rules and I think I can live without criticizing states here. So I’ll do that instead.
