i often wonder if communities moved away from living on top of streams (and other areas where pooled water was common), this would prevent a large proportion of infection.
If there is no water there are no mosquitos..
while the distance a mosquito can travel away from a water source is anything from 300 feet to 100 miles depending on species the majority cant get further than a 3 to five miles.
I could not find anywhere that stated how far the malaria spreading Anopheles mosquito can travel i believe it is less than 4 miles.
I also understand they need human blood, so whole populations of this mosquito could be wiped out just by moving away from water sources.
Of course water would then need to be collected and stored in closed systems at communities etc etc
As a child i lived in a country town and regular council checks of pooled water (including septic systems) were eliminated and/or treated and I dont remember one incident of been bitten by a mosquito as a child while living there.
Only since moving to the city as an adult did we have a mosquito problem
