In fact, that's one reason I like homebrew software and ROM hacks for 8/16 bit titles, because they're fundamentally about trying to overcome limits imposed by decades old hardware in a world where computing power for modern games and programs is virtually infinite. There are still quite a few people out there developing for these systems, and quite a few impressive demos and projects coming from them under said limitations.
