When I was in middle school, I wrote an essay about how outrageous it was that someone would get upset at me for holding a door for them. That was over twenty years ago, before online communications were commonplace. Somewhere between then and now I realized this had never happened to me. In fact, MOST of the outrage people complain about is always third-hand. Certainly you can see it online, but even most of that is outrage over outrage. If we look at the actual encounters we have in meatspace...there are plenty of wrong idiots, but somehow they are always smaller in number and importance.
