When I was studying in Vienna, I found out about their interesting model for school day structure. Students would go to school for half of the day. The second half would be dedicated to practicing a skill or trade e.g. piano lessons or culinary arts. I'm not sure if this is institutional throughout Austria, but I know it certainly happened a lot in Vienna.
