  The problem is that it's a direct result of their business model & environment. I would think they could fix it (or at least put a big dent in it) immediately if they ditched the recommendation engines, autoplay and other tricks to keep people watching. But they can't to do that, because of the choices they made 2-5 years ago.

  Mostly because this hoopla makes it hard to monetize those videos. But even conspiracy theorists need toothpaste and skin cream. YouTube needs to create an education program for advertisers that people who consume these videos are people too. Maybe sell prepper supply ads.
