Views of Rand didn't shift quickly. There have been a massive amount of people with a negative view of Rand. You just probably weren't exposed to people within your own social circle. I didn't like The Fountainhead, and there were parts that I hated but I didn't really invest much emotionally in that book. It was only when I started meeting people who loved her writing and what she advocated for that I really started to hate her. Truth be told I don't hate her as much as I hate what she represents.
