It's also interesting that the view of Rand has shifted so far, so quickly. I remember reading Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged after reading the many positive comments about them on Slashdot.
I didn't even know she was deeply hated by anyone until the social network era. Sure the writing is not that great, but people really, really hate her and people who enjoy her books. For instance:

- orionblastar 8y agoHer father had the family business stolen from him by communists so that influenced her works. Do you think there will be a strike lead by a John Gault type person? All the competent people leave or go on strike and let the incompetent take their place and have train wrecks?
- padseeker 8y agoViews of Rand didn't shift quickly. There have been a massive amount of people with a negative view of Rand. You just probably weren't exposed to people within your own social circle. I didn't like The Fountainhead, and there were parts that I hated but I didn't really invest much emotionally in that book. It was only when I started meeting people who loved her writing and what she advocated for that I really started to hate her. Truth be told I don't hate her as much as I hate what she represents.
