I switched to Dvorak in 2009, so effectively 10 years ago. I don't generally recommend it to people, but I don't regret switching. It's never been a problem, other than discouraging me from learning Vim. I learned to touch-type while learning Dvorak, and I can't type in QWERTY anymore, so I can't really tell how much of the benefits can be attributed to Dvorak vs touch-typing.
