Spying stuff aside, I feel the bigger reason we should think long and hard about this is the same reason we don't source parts for our weapons program from foreign countries: mobile networks are now critical infrastructure and any form of sabotage would be devastating to our national security. Sourcing foreign components alone massively increases risk surface area, never mind a full-scale nationwide implementation of an astoundingly complex tech.
