Ouch, the unfortunate truth.
- jandrese 8y agoThe only encrypted mail I get is from Facebook. It drives me crazy that nobody else bothers to put a "enter your public key here" field. It seems like it should be super easy to implement, but Facebook is literally the only company that I've ever seen do it.
- davidcollantes 8y agoCould you elaborate? I don't use Facebook.
- nicky0 8y agoIn Facebook's settings you can paste a PGP public key. Notification emails sent to you by Facebook will then be encrypted using that key.
- davidcollantes 8y agoInteresting! Thanks for the explanation.
- nicky0 8y agoAnother useful feature is you can opt to have the same key publicly displayed on your Faceook profile page.
- rubbsdecvik 8y agoFacebook has a field in your profile settings that you can upload your public key. The purpose is to encrypt the email notifications they send to you.
- heavenlyblue 8y agoHow many people in the industry you know (besides Tech), who use an e-mail client that is neither OS X's Mail or a web mail client?
- stronglikedan 8y agoMost "non-tech" people I know use Outlook.
- rhodysurf 8y agoEveryone uses Outlook or Gmail for businesses.
- ohithereyou 8y agoOS X's mail handles PGP just fine with the GPG Mail plugin from the GPG Suite.
- X-Istence 8y agoWhich is now a paid upgrade.
- ohithereyou 8y agoThe source is still published and you can build it from source without paying.
- penagwin 8y agoI highly doubt non-techie people will want to (or be able to) find the source, install the deps, compile and install it though.
- throwaway415415 8y agoIt's not free and is a third party tool developed from reverse engineering apple mail...

- jcranmer 8y agoThe use of PGP for email is somewhere on the order of a few hundred thousand users, while S/MIME is slightly more popular at perhaps a million or two. Out of billions of email addresses.
