We’ve been slowly moving away from enterprise certificates at our customers and using the “Custom Business Apps” route in Apple’s app store instead. It is a much more streamlined experience, no certificates to worry about and easier distribution. You will have to deal with app review but so far this has not been a problem at all. We’ve also seen Apple deny requests for enterprise certificates without reason (and they wouldn’t give it after asking), which makes me think they might even want to get rid of this channel in the long term.
