Wayland is a great demonstration that not all change and deviation from tradition in met with vitriolic anger from the linux community (as has been asserted). Wayland meets its fair share of skepticism, but it seems cool heads prevail and the situation stays civil. This gives me confidence in the maturity of the community and the long term viability of Wayland.
