TL;DR: the Youtube AI overweights heavy viewers (people who have more "engagement" with YT) and thereby ends up naturally promoting the Youtube equivalent of clickbait. YT creators notice, and make their videos more and more like Youtube-bait so that they'll be promoted. A tight feedback loop is created, and hilarity ensues. Pretty much the exact same dynamics as "Elsagate", except optimized to bait adults, not kids.
- rebuilder 8y agoIt's optimized to bait a subset of adults who are heavy users of YT. I have to wonder how good the results are for Youtube as a business, overall - have they ended up optimizing for a small group of users at the expense of catering to the larger majority?
