This is interesting and valuable information, but I can't help but be a little bitter at whistleblowers like this. This algorithm has been going for years, and these people only emerge after the media started highlighting it recently. I wish they'd blown the whistle at the time they were actually creating these algorithms.
- whatshisface 8y agoMaybe the implications weren't clear at the time, or maybe the public wasn't willing to take the time to understand a complicated issue until the media became interested in explaining it to them for other reasons.
- Epskampie 8y agoMaybe it wasn’t so clear to them at the time they were creating the algorithm. “People are watching a lot of this, they must like it, let’s recommend it.” is quite a logical thought. The harmful effects may only be becoming apparent now. I for one never thought about this before.
- Nasrudith 8y agoWell the thing is that it isn't even clear now that it counts as something to blow a whistle upon. There is literally nothing illegal about what they were doing despite the harping of every legacy player.
