Wait, are we seriously saying HTML and CSS are "useless knowledge" for web development. Wheat is a horrible analogy... it's like trying to be a cook without knowing how to use an oven. "Ovens are useless since George Foreman grills came out." You probably could cook most things on a Foreman grill, but that doesn't make you a good chef.
- otras 8y agoYou may have missed it with the aside, but GP wrote “useless knowledge--and added complexity-- for a total newbie” (emphasis added)
- learc83 8y agoHTML and CSS aren't useless knowledge even for a total newbie. It's all HTML and CSS in the end. Maybe one day the abstractions will be good enough, but for now they are way too leaky to try to pretend they don't exist, even for total newbies.

- kkarakk 8y agoif you're working for a company that uses a react stack as a noob - what use are advanced html and css going to be? sure maybe you'll hit a subtle and infuriating bug but usually you'll have someone more senior who'll point out the way. now if you ONLY knew advanced html and css, do you think you're going to get hired at company that's looking for a beginner react dev? maybe but the job market is weird
- munificent 8y agoDid you miss the rest of the sentence that ended with "for a total newbie"?
