DNT and any other technical solution that isn't on by default is a waste of time. The time for letting the ad-tech industry come up with PR non-solutions that don't change anything is over.
Congress needs to pass GDPR into law.
- fiddlerwoaroof 8y agoThe problem with DNT was that some browser vendor turned it on by default, which made it be “a flag the user didn’t turn off” rather than “a reliable signal that this user has asked not to be tracked”.
- martin_a 8y agoOne should assume that nobody likes to be tracked and therefore this should be the default option. But yeah, opt-out of privacy tools is never fine for adtech companies.
- MiddleEndian 8y agoThe problem with Do Not Track was that it wasn't a technical solution at all. It was begging. I'm honestly surprised anybody thought it would work.
