- wnissen 8y agoAnd it should be far easier to do so with a self-driving car. There will have to be a mechanism for it to pay tolls, parking meters, etc. without human intervention. It's always been funny to me that inside a building on 5th Avenue it costs $1000 sq/ft but you can drive on the street outside that building for free.
- zdragnar 8y agoAccess to transit options is usually factored into the taxable value of building space. If the city isn't directing a portion of the taxes collected to maintain those transit options, that's the fault of the city. There's already gas and other assorted taxes that go into the roads, as well as parking meters and such. The idea that "driving on the street" is free simply doesn't hold.
- michaelleslie 8y agoContrary to popular belief, gas taxation does not come close to covering the cost of road maintenance and construction.

- stevenwoo 8y agoThey have been using license plate readers for this for more than a decade in cities across Europe and Asia.
