This reminded me to look up the "Metrics for Flow-based Product Development" that Donald Reinertsen lists in Principles of Product Development Flow (Figure 8-6). The difficulty would be in defining and quantifying these concept -- things like Cost of Queues, Transaction Cost per Batch, or Trends in Cadence. My team, inspired in part by Reinertsen's book, has already optimized batch size (i.e. user story size) with noticeable positive effects. I guess the KPI could be maintaining certain parameters rather than assuming they need to be improved. Thanks. This does remind me that this is an area I wanted to explore.
