I really hope not. Enterprise distribution has been hugely useful as an internal tool at just about every company I have worked for.
They seem to have broken the cardinal rule though. Namely the somewhat ambiguous "Don't use your Enterprise account to bypass the App Store."
- saagarjha 8y agoI'd be surprised if Apple got rid of enterprise distribution altogether rather than blacklisting Facebook's certificate.
- eunoia 8y agoAgreed. I'm curious if FB just doesn't have to play by the same rules? It would seem like the loss of FB Research's Enterprise cert would be a major pain for them.
- saagarjha 8y agoFacebook, like every other large company, has a separate set of rules, though for something like this I can't imagine Apple looking the other way. My expected outcome is that the current certificate is revokes, and Apple has a talk with their team, tells them to not do this, and allows them to request a new enterprise account.
- roguecoder 8y agoIf they ruin this for the rest of us, I will never forgive Facebook. I hope Apple comes down on them like a bag of bricks instead of f'king up my beta testing.
- saagarjha 8y agoApple probably wants you using TestFlight rather than enterprise certificates for external beta testing…
- randomsearch 8y agoHard to forgive Facebook for undermining democracy, mass behavioural manipulation, privacy violation, monopolistic practices, and a gazillion other things. But I agree, add this to the "unforgivable" pile.
