The MesaLock Linux project aims to structurally replace parts of Linux with safer equivalents. For example OpenSSL: https://github.com/mesalock-linux/mesalink https://github.com/mesalock-linux/mesalink
I think projects such as MesaLock are interesting because they don't try and start from scratch[1], but instead incrementally improve the status quo.
[1]: Though I love Redox & pals. I'm definitely rooting for their success.
