Because foot diseases are a common thing: jock itch, athlete's foot, toe funguses...yeah, your feet should be clean, but unfortunately, it seems like a lot of the folks insisting on taking their shoes off are the ones that don't understand that their feet are a problem. (Not always, but I've definitely been grossed out in an office before, as well as on a plane. Ugh, don't get me started on the guy that went to the plane bathroom barefoot, doesn't affect anyone else, but OH MY GOD.)
