More on the German style, "Land without Plea Bargaining: How the Germans Do It (1979)", https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5059044 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5059044. Although I have read that they use plea bargaining more now. While the lens of the article is on plea bargaining, it gives a good overview of the German system.
