Ask HN: Industrial Operation Optimization using AI – any case studies?

Any case studies, research or projects about industrial operation optimization using AI/ML? There's a lot of vendor-driven noise out there - but nothing with numbers, metrics or success stories. What I'm interested in is facility/plant operation optimization using machine learning. My, slightly naive, vision is that plant operations can be modeled using neural networks (and there are some evidence that it works on a small scale) - but I can't seem to find prior public work done in that area.
