The free advertising infuriated me bitterly. I remember when Hillary Clinton had scheduled a major policy speech. So I took my lunch in a cafe to watch it on CNN. When I got there, the speech wasn't broadcasting and instead I got to see 30 minutes of an empty podium because Trump had announced a last-minute speech himself with reporters breathlessly speculating on what he might say whenever he took the stage.
It's not liberal or conservative bias for CNN, it's sensationalism bias.
- jessaustin 8y agoIt was just self-interest. Trump got better TV ratings than Clinton or indeed any other candidate got. (HRC could hardly complain because she got better ratings than decent humans like Sanders, Stein, and Johnson.) Until DJT retires from politics or someone with a comparable built-in potential news audience challenges him, that will continue to be the case. If you want to know who will be a serious contender in 2024, pay attention to who has a reality show in 2021 (if not reality show, whatever moves the needle for the masses in that barely-imaginable future [hint: watch to see what Chris Christie does the only thing that can stop that guy is a heart attack]). Forget about 2020. DJT already had it comfortably, and now Mueller and the House Ds are doing their damnedest to trigger a landslide... The point is, the news orgs pretend to oppose Trump, but when no one is listening they say things like Les Moonves said before he got blackballed for doing what Hollywood bigwigs do: ""It may not be good for America, but it's damn good for CBS." [0] They don't actually care why advertisers pay them money, so long as the money gets paid.
