Some cases are pretty clear, but the first example used feels off. Someone saying "so help me god" doesn't yet make it entirely clear if they are beseeching Abrahamic monotheistic God, or their specific alternative entity by title. Assuming the former might be tradition, but it seems perfectly valid to go with the latter since it it is more inclusive.
