Sorry, Ajit: Comcast lowered cable investment despite net neutrality repeal
- nopacience 8y agoAjit knows. I belive he is intelligent. He is a top executive and uses his position to screw the internet and generate more profits to his supported groups. He is not trying to do any good for anyone.
- craftinator 8y agoDespite the above comment being dead... I completely agree. That man has duped our whole country.
- RcouF1uZ4gsC 8y agoOne thing to note is that the Net Neutrality was repealed July 11, 2018 (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-internet/us-net-neutrality-rules-will-expire-on-june-11-fcc-idUSKBN1IB1UN https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-internet/us-net-neutr...). For the Q4 2018 (Oct 1 - Dec 31) "Cable Communications’ capital expenditures increased 7.6% to $2.3 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018, reflecting higher spending on scalable infrastructure, customer premise equipment and line extensions, partially offset by decreased investment in support capital. " (https://www.cmcsa.com/news-releases/news-release-details/comcast-reports-4th-quarter-and-full-year-2018-results https://www.cmcsa.com/news-releases/news-release-details/com...) So while the overall capital investment for the year was down, for the first full quarter after net neutrality, capital investment was up.
- Proven 8y agoIf they invested more, their services would have to be more expensive (or demand for them higher) in order to realize return on the additional investment. Simply speaking, TechCrunch hasn't a clue, like most other outsiders. One can't be certain the lower investment means this or that. Maybe it is a sign of more competition, or at least Comcast's expectations of more competition or falling prices. Or maybe it's something entirely else. And besides, as everyone knows, 2018 investment plans were made in 2017, maybe around mid 2017. Bottom line is, this article doesn't tell me anything new and doesn't even indicate that net neutrality would have made things better.
