Ask HN: Cons of choosing Ansible as Iaac mananger?
I've use Terraform as my prefered choise when dealing with cloud resources but I've felt in love with ansible because it makes easy the provision of those cloud resources. So, I've a some doubts if its a good choice to use Ansible in the same way I use terraform.
- verdverm 8y agoWe use both TF and Ansible and have been very happy with the choice. TF is used for cloud resources (network, IAM, vms, etc), Ansible is used for runtime provisioning. We also use Packer+Ansible for creating AMIs that are later used in TF and have runtime info (ex. IPs) injected into the process via Ansible. You probably can't replace TF completely with Ansible, but it makes for a great partner. I've used SaltStack in the past for a TF/Ansible replacement, if you are looking to move to a single dependency.
