Ask HN: Patterns for better collaboration with remote teams in India?
Like many tech companies, we also have a remote office in India. Its been couple of years and we are seeing increasing pain points in terms of coordinating work. The bigger issue I see are:
1. Cultural Differences - Both offices use scrum but US offices are more Agile/Lean and in general very collaborative. India office on the other hand has more Enterprise mindset and try to mold the work in waterfall model with expectations of perfect requirements and pinger pointing when things go wrong instead of owning it.
2. Roles - In US offices, everyone writes code including our CTO. In India, Managers and above don’t write code. This makes coordination very painful since the guy you are dealing with didn’t write code in last half a decade or more. Not sure if this is unique to just us or its a trend in India. Do managers in other Indian software companies write code?
Anyone faced similar issues and what patterns worked to make it better going forward?
Thanks!
