TLDR: because their legal documents were in order, but judged too complex. Which was apparently worth violating the rights of the defense too (Google Europe is located in Ireland, and therefore under EU law needs to be sued in Ireland. Can we do this to everyone now ?) (not that there was any court case or defense done at all, again a fantastic precedent)
