I use 2 x 24" monitors to. I've tried various other combinations, but this seems to be the sweet spot. The real advantage I find is you can maximise your apps to each monitor and just flick between them if needed. They're also cheap. I have tried the 3rd 24" and I found I just leave mail and stuff open on it, mainly because it was there. Two seems to work for me. I have one for my IDE to edit code, and the other one for other stuff. I keep thinking I should do something more sophisticated, but I always come back to this. I find larger monitors I have to move my head a lot more as well, with the 24" eye movement is enough.
