The server editions are targeted at servers, the desktop LTS edition is targeted at desktops, specifically the desktops of people that don't want things breaking randomly, who don't need the latest and greatest and who don't like updating every 6 months.
- shmerl 8y agoNot Ubuntu at least. For instance Mesa in Ubuntu LTS is a lot behind the current release. So it is clearly not properly desktop oriented. This isn't simply about "latest and greatest", but about timely bug fixes as well. Thinking that LTS provides stability can backfire, if you'll be stuck with the same bug for months and in the end won't have stability either. Proper desktop oriented LTS updates some things frequently (backports idea).
