Got a message from yet another self driving startup. Agreed to do a phone screen out of curiosity. Interviewer is 6 months out of school and his first question - why do you want to work for us.
My answer - I actually don’t, I didn’t even know you exist and it is your job to convince me. Thoughts - i’m wasting my time.
- techslave 8y agoha. i would have hung up. but then i’m pretty gruff.
- LaserToy 8y agoI was very close to do it and I did a poor job hiding my annoyance. It didn’t stop there. The coding challenge was standard bs done in a glitchy online tool. Yet another clone of coderpad which implemented poorly. I asked the interviewer why did he pick this specific question and how does it correlate to what they do - answer was not encouraging. As you guessed, I didn’t pass he interview :).
- gedy 8y agoThis a big problem I've seen as a senior dev. Interviewers almost always default to "why do you want to work here, prove yourself, etc", and question accordingly. This is hugely off-putting to passive candidates who are busy with their current roles, etc.
