Isn't that a perfect example of survivorship bias? That if our form of life managed to appear in a particular universe, it's built for us then?

- simonh 8y agoLike the body of water in a puddle that is amazed that the universe produced a depression in the ground that exactly fits its form and size. How unlikely. Surely it is proof the universe was made for its benefit?
- viach 8y agoExactly! I can imagine an article in this Puddle Universe: >"Is the Puddle a conscious mind?" >"Cosmopsychism might seem crazy, but it provides a robust explanatory model for how the Puddle became fine-tuned for water"
- ppod 8y agoYes. Don't know why so many philosophers are either unaware of it or choose to ignore it, it's a well known idea. It was even referenced in an X-Men movie, I think. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthropic_principle https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthropic_principle
