The grisly (1) part is that (far as I know) no other decision (2) in human history has caused more early death.
(1) I say grisly because the effects of diabetes, heart disease, and many other obesity related conditions can be devastating to the patient and their family.
(2) When I say decision I mean both the owners of the sugar company and the Harvard professor. I wonder to what degree he privately was aware of the amount of death and pain he caused with his choice.
- csmeder 8y agoFact check. Knowing that heart disease was the number one cause of death in the US, I assumed the number of deaths would be high. At 300k deaths a year related to obesity, it is a high number, but no where near the number of deaths caused by wars that could be argued were caused by a person’s decision. Thus it turns out my first statement was wrong. This is a good reminder to fact check before posting.
