Ask HN: Attribution
Lately, I've become concerned with terms of service which proxy ownership of digital media posted through a service. Does anyone know if an attribution license, like cc-by, applied to content would require a service and its affiliates to credit the real content owner in any use of the content?
Here is an example borrowed from http://picplz.com/terms/
If you post Content to the Service, unless we indicate otherwise, you grant MixedMediaLabs and its affiliates a nonexclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable and fully sublicensable right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display such Content in connection with: (i) providing and promoting the Service; and/or (ii) exercising the rights granted in these Terms.
